PAWS is a Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) non-profit corporation dedicated to the health, care, welfare, and population control of cats and dogs in the CNMI and to the education of the public for animal care and rights. PAWS was established in March, 1993 and incorporated on July 24, 1995.

A small adult female was recently found on island. She is white with light brown markings and is of uncertain age - maybe somewhere between 4-7 years old. She stands about 1 foot off the ground and is about 2 feet long. She looks like a pure breed mix of some kind.
We have her in a foster home and are trying to find her family. If you know of someone who is missing a dog that fits this description, please contact us or call 285-PAWS.

This is Bruno and he is a Chocolate Labrador Retriever. He went missing from As Mahetok on December 10, 2007. If you have seen him or know of anyone that may have taken him, please contact Willie at 483-9459 or Louisa at 483-8946. We are willing to pay a reward for his safe return, no questions asked. Please help us find our family member. Thank you.

Pigpen dissapeared on on Saturday evening, November 3, 2007 from his home in the village of Kagman just past the Cepeda 3in1 Store as you're entering the village, right before the BBQ stand/video rental. He somehow figured out how to open the screen and got out of the house. We hoped he would come home by morning, but has not shown up. If you've seen him, please contact Tamara at thunter@moylans.net

Rocky has been missing since August 30th, 2007. He was last seen in CK on Lucia St. & off Texas Rd. Please call 287-5972 if you know anything about him.
House Bill 16-13 seeks to prohibit the cruel treatment and theft of animals and to provide penalties therefore. The full text of the bill is available here.
Thanks to PTI, and our friend Brad Ruszala, PAWS has a new hotline! Now when you need us, we'll be able to return your call the same day! Just call 285-PAWS (7297)!
Letter from Joon Ko and Crosby Schultz on behalf of the Whispering Palms School:
Dear PAWS,
Thank you very much for helping us at the garage sale. We have made $625.00 from it. You gave so much to us. You gave us money and support. We cannot thank you enough. We would just like to tell you that all the money we raised goes towards spaying, neutering, shots, and health care for the cats.
We spayed and neutered some of our cats already with the money we have raised from the bake sale. And we are looking forward to spaying and neutering the other cats with the money we have made from the garage sale.
Thanks again for your support and your help.
Thanks to Whispering Palms for helping the animals of saipan!

On December 1st and 2nd, PAWS joined several CNMI artists and writers for the Holiday Artists' Sale. We offered beautiful hand beaded jewelry donated by Lucy Sablan, animal related and pet care items, and a very fun 'Make It & Take It' Christmas ornament decorating station. The kids had a great time there and we enjoyed watching these budding artists let their creativity flow! PAWS raised nearly $400.00 from this event. Thanks to everyone who stopped by.
Special thanks to all of our PAWS volunteers who donated their time over the weekend to help us with this endeavor: Deane Jessee-Jones, Rose Callier, Lucy Sablan, Lynda Rowe, Mayuki Kebukawa, Ann Brazel, Bruce & Olive Bateman, Robert and Mia Kaipat, Mary McGee, Marja Onni, Emily Gries, and student volunteers Sarah Lee & Christine. Also thank you to our supporters who renewed their memberships or became a new member of PAWS, when visiting us at this venue. Happy Holidays!
Pictures of the event are available here.

| Sandy and her mother Patches have a wonderful new home together. They were adopted by Mr. Michael Stewart, president of Saipan's AIC Marianas, Inc | This sweet little puppy was found by Laura Dastoor and brought to Jeri Hallman. They arranged an adoption for her by Gabriel, owner of Cafe at the Park. You can stop in there, get one of the island's best coffees or lattes, and ask about her progress. |

Our first Kids' Night Out fundraiser was a huge success! We had 39 children in attendance and raised $335.00.
During the four-hour period between 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., the children played video games, interactive games, made Halloween cats, and watched Otis & Milo. We hope the parents enjoyed those four hours as much as the kids did!
Pictures of the event are available here.
Join us next time, on November 16, 2007, from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., at the Fiesta Resort for another Kids' Night Out.
Due to the number of people that pre-registered their children for the October KNO, we strongly urge you to pre-register for the November KNO. And, if your plans change, please let us know so we can make room for other children.
If you have any questions regarding KNO, please contact Melissa Simms at melissasimms56@hotmail.com.

PAWS held an open meeting at the Fiesta Resort Chambre Bar on October 05, 2007. Take a look at the images of the event here.

PAWS, Beautify CNMI!'s Animal Welfare Committee and Mt. Carmel Catholic Church recognized the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi on Sunday, October 7, 2007 by holding a Blessing of the Animals. Pictures and more information about the event are available here.

WISPA Voulunteers Teach Children About Animal Welfare
PAWS President and Beautify CNMI”s Animal Welfare Chair, Katie Busenkell, recently returned from an animal welfare conference sponsored by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) in Samoa. WSPA is a United Nations partner.
As a Pacific Island Society Member, WSPA invited PAWS to attend the conference to learn about animal welfare education in the Pacific region, as well as animal control methods and working with local governments.
The conference was held from July 28-30, 2007. Pacific island delegates included Samoa, American Samoa, Papa New Guinea, the Cook Islands, Majuro, Fiji, and Saipan. A Vanuatu delegate was scheduled to give a presentation during the conference, but missed his flight.
Also in attendance were representatives from the Australia Queensland RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), New Zealand RSCPA, and WSPA directors from Australia, the United Kingdom, and Asia.
Busenkell said, “It was a great opportunity for PAWS to learn more about how to educate children about the importance of responsible pet ownership. We also learned a great deal about effective methods of animal control, not all of which require spaying and neutering.”
“Believe it or not, animal welfare taints our tourism industry, and property values, while also raising public health and safety concerns. Collectively, the community needs to change their approach to animals. With the help of organizations like WSPA and the United States Humane Society, PAWS is willing and able to help people do just that – change the way they treat animals in a manner that benefits the community and the animals.”
